The very first Cake-Run was a big success. Myself and Kate Walsh- my flatmate- had a few tries at baking before attempting the first Cake-Run at the end of August. We'd never really baked properly before. But that's the whole point. Cake-Run is for everyone. It's not just for those of us who know how to bake. It's for people who have no idea how to bake! There is meant to be chaos in the kitchen! It's meant to be fun! So, don't worry if you've never baked before. We hadn't! Take a look at mine and Kate's first attempt at a cake...
This is a practice run.
So, this is Kate trying to act like she knows what she's doing...
This is going to be a piece of cake!
Kate won't let me take a photo of the mixture of this soon to be lemon and almond cake as it looks like "Vomit". This is true...
So, I took a photo of the cook book instead.
I do my bit...
It doesn't really work as you can see.
But Kate's excited! And then it turns into...
...this
So, we whisked up some cream..
and ate it with some jam doughnuts we'd bought across the road...they were really tasty..
We tried eating the "lemon and almond" cake but we'd to scrape it off the cake tin.
It ended up tasting like a mangoloid marmaladey slice of toast....
Kate had to go to Devon for a few days to have a nervous breakdown. "We can't sell mangoloid marmalade toast to people for charity! We just can't!" She shrieked as she slammed the door shut. While she was away, I had another practice run and made...
THIS! With this all mighty Victoria Sponge Cake sent from Jesus, my confidence picked up and I managed to get the Cake-Run Batmobile aka the 1950's pram from Freecycle along with ALL baking trays and weighing scales. I got my ingredients from Lidl and was good to go!!! Check out the First Cake-Run page to see photos of how the day went!! If I can do it- ANYONE CAN!!!
Go to the first ever Cake-Run page for more photos of the BIG DAY!
